Oaty Boy is an oat milk brand concept which look is inspired by the 1920s cartoons. a cruelty-free, locally source brand for everyone’s favorite non-dairy milk

Goal

My goal in this project was to develop an original brand concept for the Oaty Boy brand. This includes its logo, typography, colors, and packaging

Target audience

Oaty Boy is a family-friendly brand, and everyone can enjoy it. but Its primary audience is parents and families with children.

Discovery

Oaty Boy started as a passion piece, a product of a casual conversation with a friend at work. What began just as an inner joke turned into a unique and out-of-the-box project for me.

The inspiration behind the name Oaty Boy came from oat milk lattes. When ordering coffee, my friend and I would always get oat milk as our milk of choice, and we would call these drinks the Oaty Boys. We did it so much that we wondered why there was no oat milk brand called Oaty Boy yet.

Visually I knew I wanted the brand aesthetic to be a mix between 1920s cartoons, anime, and just a warm, cute feeling (like sunny days, picnics with close friends, and pastries). I also wanted to take inspiration from Japanese packaging trends. Even though people of any age can enjoy oat milk, I also tried to make it very family/kid-friendly.

After doing some typographic research, I decided Rampage Monoline was ideal for the Oaty Boy brand. It felt friendly, happy, and almost fairytale-like (in a good way) visually. It also stuck to my chosen concept the most.

For my colors, I knew a bright color palette would be a must. The flavored milk played a significant role because I knew pink and brown were going to be essential, and I wanted to compliment these colors with brighter or darker shades to balance them out.

Logo and color variations

Oaty Boy comes in three presentations. Original, which comes in signature Oaty Boy and Blu boy shades, I chose the color blue for my initial presentation because I thought red is usually associated with whole dairy milk and blue seemed to align better with the pastel color aesthetic. Then there’s the chocolate-flavored Oaty which comes in the shades Choccy boy and Minty boy. Even though I was hesitant at first because of the connection with chocolate mint flavor, but after analyzing the results, I decided to move forward with the combination. Finally, Strawberry Oaty comes in the shades Pinky boy and Berry boy, and it’s the most vibrant of the three color presentations.

Reflection

The Oaty Boy branding was a fun piece to make. It made me happy to bring such a fun memory to life with my design, but what really pushed me to pursue this project was that that it was out-of-the-box for me. I always noticed I have a predominant style in my designs. This project helped me show versatility and explore a softer, more approachable look that multiple users can enjoy.

Project status

I consider this project a growing project since it’s a passion piece. Maybe I’ll continue developing an interface or merchandise, but I consider it done right now.
